The first Expendables movie fulfilled the wildest dreams of action aficionados back in 2010, bringing together some of cinema’s greatest muscle-bound stars including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren and Jet Li. Following a healthy box office, an inevitable sequel was announced and 2012’s The Expendables 2 now has a first full trailer. Stallone, Statham, Willis, Lundgren, Li all return, as do supporting players Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Austin, Randy Couture and Terry Crews. However, this time around, we have two new exciting additions – namely Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris.
Relatively little is still known of the sequel’s full plot, but IMDb provides the following shorts synopsis for the film:
Mr. Church (Willis) reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.

What we can tell from this inaugural trailer is that the humorous, one-liner-heavy dialogue is back with vengeance in this second Expendables outing. Following an adrenaline-soaked zip wire set piece, we are briefly introduced to the two aforementioned big name additions, as well as Liam Hemsworth’s Bill ‘The Kid’ Timmons, who also makes his debut in the franchise. Arguably the highlight of the whole trailer is a sequence featuring a robed Statham, who declares “I now pronounce you man and knife” before burying said instrument into a faceless foe.
The film’s action-packed shoot-outs certainly look polished when compared to some of their previous incarnations, and with both Norris and ‘The Muscles from Brussels’ JCVD added to the roster, The Expendables 2looks to be sticking close to its undeniably winning original formula.
The Expendables 2 is due to be released in UK cinemas on 17 August, 2012.
