Competition: Win tickets to ‘Beats Rhymes & Life’ at Clapham PH *closed*

Hot on the heels of their last event – a packed screening of Spike Lee’s 1989 classic Do The Right Thing – fellow UK film blog Permanent Plastic Helmet are delighted to announce a rare screening of Michael Rapaport’s 2011 doc Beats Rhymes and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest at Clapham Picturehouse on Thursday 27 September. What’s more, we have a pair of tickets to give away to the event. This is an exclusive competition for our Facebook and Twitter fans, so if you haven’t already, ‘Like’ us at facebook.com/CineVueUK or follow us @CineVue before answering the question below.

Best known for songs Bonita Applebum and Can I Kick It? – plus classic albums such as Midnight Marauders and The Low-End Theory – influential Queens-based group A Tribe Called Quest pioneered a jazzier, sunnier sound at a time when gangsta rap was in the ascendancy. Their 1998 break-up shocked the industry, and Beats Rhymes and Life picks up with Tribe in 2008, when they reunited to perform sold-out concerts across the United States.

Rapaport’s all-access film focuses on the inner workings, personal relationships and behind the scenes drama that defines the band. No stone is left unturned, with a host of musical legends (including Kanye West, Common and Mos Def) on hand to pay tribute. You don’t need to be a die-hard hip- hop head to enjoy this revealing, funny and finally very moving film. On the night, there will be drinks and classic hip-hop in the bar, food, and a prize giveaway.

To be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets to see Beats Rhymes & Life at Clapham Picturehouse on Thursday 27 September, just answer the following simple question:

How many studio albums did A Tribe Called Quest release between the period of 1990-1998?

a) Five
b) Seven
c) Nine
