Funny, emotional and brimming with heart, soul and character, American writer and filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton’s Short Term 12 (2013) was the breakout hit of last year’s South by Southwest Festival (SXSW), where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. To celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release of Cretton’s award-winning directorial debut this coming Monday (10 March), we’ve kindly been provided with THREE DVD copies of the film to offer out to our regular readers, courtesy of our good friends at UK indie distributor Verve Pictures. This is an exclusive competition for our Facebook and Twitter fans, so if you haven’t already, ‘Like’ us at facebook.com/CineVueUK or follow us @CineVue before answering the question below.
Passionate and tough, Grace (Larson) is a formidable caretaker of the kids in her charge at a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers, and is also in love with her long-term boyfriend and co-worker Mason (John Gallagher Jr.). However, Grace’s own difficult past and the surprising future that suddenly presents itself throw her into unforeseen confusion, made all the sharper with the arrival of a new intake at the facility: a gifted but troubled teenage girl with whom Grace has a charged connection. Beautifully acted, heartfelt and sincere, Short Term 12 offers tears and laughter in equal measure and finds both truth and humour in the most unexpected of places.
