Having just finished airing on BBC Four, four-part series Hinterland marks the first time the Beeb have broadcast a programme in both Welsh and English languages. Hinterland has been hailed as Wales’ answer to Danish detective noirs The Killing and The Bridge, so the fact that Danish broadcaster DR (creators of The Killing) have bought the rights to the Welsh-language series is something of a coup. To celebrate the home entertainment release of Hinterland on DVD and digital download, we have THREE DVD copies of the drama to give away to our readers courtesy of UK distributor Arrow Films’ Noir label. This is an exclusive competition for our Facebook and Twitter fans, so if you haven’t already, ‘Like’ us at facebook.com/CineVueUK or follow us @CineVue before answering the question below.

From the windswept sand dunes of the coastal lowlands to the badlands of the hinterland, Aberystwyth is the setting for this brand new four-part drama series. Into this remote corner of West Wales steps the brilliant but troubled DCI Tom Mathias (Richard Harrington), following a decade in London’s Metropolitan Police Service. On the run from his London past, Mathias isolates himself on the outskirts of a town filled with secrets as dark and destructive as his own. Isolated farms and close-knit villages make up a part of the world where history, myth and tradition come face to face with the modern and contemporary panoramic vistas and quaint façade hide a multitude of sins. This is a place that lives according to its own rules, a place where grudges fester, where the secrets of the past are buried deep.

To be in with a chance of winning one of THREE copies of Hinterland on DVD, just answer the following simple question:

What is the original Welsh meaning of Aberystwyth, the town where BBC series Hinterland is set?

a) Abbey of the Ystwyth
b) Harbour of the Ystwyth
c) Mouth of the Ystwyth

To enter, simply fill out the contact form below with your name, email address, subject (‘Hinterland’) answer and postal address.*
