Oscars 2016: Revenant, Mad Max lead noms

Following hot on the heels of last week’s Bafta nominations in London as well as the weekend’s telling Golden Globe results, at 1.30pm GMT today the list of nominees for this year’s 88th Academy Awards were broadcast across the globe. With presenting duties split between Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee, as well as John Krasinski and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, it was Alejandro Iñárritu’s The Revenant, George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road and Ridley Scott’s The Martian that were the three stand-out performers with twelve, ten and seven nominations respectively. Though it missed out on Best Picture and Best Director nods, Todd Haynes’ Carol still took six nominations, a feat also matched by Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. A full list of this year’s Academy Awards nominations can be found below and the Oscar ceremony itself will take place on 28 February.
