Despite receiving a total of 34 nominations across film and television, Netflix limped away from this year’s Golden Globes ceremony with just two awards – Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story’s Laura Dern and Olivia Colman for her star performance in The Crown.
Sam Mendes’ First World War epic 1917 picked up two major accolades – Best Motion Picture, Drama and Best Director – while Quentin Tarantino won Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Best Screenplay for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. Joaquin Phoneix (Joker) and Taron Egerton (Rocketman) won the two main actor awards, and Awkwafina (The Farewell) made history as the first Asian to win a film lead actress Globe.
The industry now looks ahead to BAFTA nominations this Tuesday (7 January) and Oscar nominations next Monday (13 January) ahead of the two awards ceremonies on 2 February and 9 February respectively.
