More than twelve months after “the slap”, the 95th Academy Awards are almost upon us. The recent success of Parasite and Drive My Car appears to have opened the door for more international features to break through into the main categories, with Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front up for Best Picture, Best Director and seven further categories. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once leads the way ahead of Sunday’s ceremony with 11 nods.
There were surprise nominations for British and Irish actors Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie) and Paul Mescal (Aftersun), and a number of notable omissions including Jordan Peele’s Nope, Park Chan-wook’s Decision to Leave and Brett Morgen’s Moonage Daydream.
Winning an Oscar is a bit like winning the lottery: even at this late stage, there are still plenty of categories with 2-3 possible winners. Here are our predictions ahead of the big night:
